In the Belgorod region, a 42-year-old woman, believing in magic, fell victim to a fraudster. Over the course of four months, she transferred more than 4 million rubles to the fortune teller to “save her family from a curse.” This was reported by the regional Department of Internal Affairs.
The incident began when the woman came across an online advertisement for “magical services.” To contact the fortune teller, she wrote “So be it” under the post and soon received a reply.
The first time, 2,000 rubles were taken from her under the pretext of purchasing a “candle for the ritual.” Soon after, the fortune teller claimed that all members of the woman’s family were allegedly “cursed” and that it needed to be removed immediately.
From then on, for four months, the woman regularly sent money. The total amount reached 4 million rubles, but nothing changed in her life. What made the situation even more suspicious was that the fortune teller demanded she sell her entire apartment for a “final ritual.”
In addition, according to the Gubkinsky city police department, during the past week 70 residents of the region became victims of remote theft and telephone fraud. The total damage exceeded 30.4 million rubles, of which nearly 6 million came from credit funds.
