An unexpected development was recorded in trade between Russia and the United States. In July 2025, Russia supplied chicken eggs to the US for the first time in its history. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to data from the US Statistics Service.
According to the information, the United States purchased eggs from Russia worth 455 thousand dollars. During July, the US imported a total of 16.5 million dollars’ worth of eggs, with Russia being listed as a new supplier in this sector.
Among the leading suppliers, Brazil is in first place with 8.8 million dollars’ worth of products. It is followed by Mexico (3.9 million dollars) and India (933 thousand dollars). In addition, in July, the US also imported eggs from Saudi Arabia for the first time, amounting to 518 thousand dollars.
Officials noted that in recent months, the outbreak of avian influenza in the US has led to a shortage of eggs in the domestic market. As a result, egg prices have doubled compared to last year.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in cases where birds test positive for avian influenza, they are being culled on a mass scale. This measure is being implemented to prevent the spread of the disease.
Analysts believe that Russia’s supply of eggs to the US could open up new markets for the country. At the same time, this indicates the potential expansion of trade relations between the two states in different areas.
The fact that such an everyday essential product as eggs has gained such relevance in the global market once again highlights the importance of food security.
