During a traditional festival in the city of Gard, France, a tragic incident occurred that both shocked the mind and broke hearts. A 52-year-old man riding a bicycle was unexpectedly struck first by a horse, then by a bull, and finally by a car. This was reported by Le Figaro.
When rescuers arrived at the scene, they found the man unconscious and with severe injuries. Despite urgent medical assistance, it was not possible to save his life.
According to law enforcement authorities, the tragedy happened during the “abrivado” ceremony. This event is widely practiced in southern France, where bulls run through city streets surrounded by horse riders. Special barriers are installed to protect participants and spectators.
However, this time an unforeseen situation occurred. The Gard gendarmerie explained the details:
“The man riding a bicycle was first struck by a horse, then by a bull. After he fell to the ground, he was run over by an SUV following the procession.”
The tragedy sparked major public concern and attention. A festival usually filled with joy and entertainment for many turned into a deadly incident this time.
Officials stated that the prosecutor’s office has launched a formal investigation into the incident. Once again, safety at the Olympics or national traditional festivals came under discussion.
Thus, “abrivado,” considered part of France’s cultural heritage, brought not only enjoyment this time but also deep sorrow.
