President of Armenia: We will no longer treat Russia like brothers

President of Armenia Vaagn Khachaturyan noted that today relations between Russia and Armenia are developing not at the level of "brothers" as before, but on the basis of equal cooperation.

"Currently, our relations with Russia are in a completely different form - this is a relationship of direct cooperation. Russia now views Armenia not as a brother, but as a partner. "Over the past four years, we have achieved great success," Khachaturyan emphasized.

According to the president, Yerevan wants Russia to fully take into account the independent decisions made by the Armenian government.

He also reacted to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk's statement that Armenia should choose between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) or the European Union.

"One should ask himself what these words mean. We are working under the conditions established within the framework of the EAEU. At the same time, we are working on economic agreements with the European Union. So far, there have been no problems in these areas," the Armenian leader said.

It is clear from the current statements that Yerevan is interested in maintaining an independent course in foreign policy and balanced development of economic relations with Russia and Europe.
