In the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, a very tragic incident occurred that sparked wide discussions. On Wednesday, September 10, in the city of Betma, an 11-year-old girl suddenly died during a physical education class, reported Times of India.
According to the information, a sixth-grade student named Lakshita was performing sports exercises together with her classmates when she suddenly became tired and sat down on the ground. Witnesses said that a few seconds later she lost consciousness and her condition worsened.
Help was called immediately, and the physical education teacher took the girl to a local hospital. Later, she was transferred to another medical facility, but all the resuscitation measures taken by doctors were unsuccessful.
A forensic examination revealed that the girl’s heart had stopped right during the lesson. This caused her tragic death.
One of the neighbors, in a comment to the press, revealed some details about the girl’s health:
“There had been no cases of heart disease in the family. However, Lakshita’s weight was abnormally high for her age — 74 kilograms. This factor may have negatively affected her heart and caused problems,” he said.
This incident raised serious questions not only in the local community but also across the entire country about the problem of excess weight. After all, obesity has now become a global issue worldwide.
According to the latest UNICEF report, for the first time in history, the number of overweight children has exceeded the number of underweight children. The document notes that one in ten children aged 5 to 19 worldwide — approximately 188 million children and adolescents — suffers from obesity.
The tragedy that occurred in India once again demonstrated how serious this problem is. Taking care of children’s health, properly organizing physical activities, and preventing excess weight are now urgent tasks not only for parents but for society as a whole.
