Faruq A'zam, a senior advisor to the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources in Afghanistan, was arrested after proposing to send women as nurses to the earthquake-affected Kunar province. This was reported by a source in Afghanistan International.
According to reports, his arrest was carried out on the orders of Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzoda. It is reported that Faruq A'zam is currently being held in a special supervisory authority in Kabul, and his case has been sent to a military court.
Faruq A'zam spoke on social media, strongly advocating for women's education and their participation in the medical field. According to her, on the Meta platform, she insisted that female nurses should be sent to Kunar. Through this, he aimed to show that the role of women in society is even more important and necessary.
She also called on female healthcare professionals working in Afghanistan and abroad to help the population affected by the earthquake.
"Are our educated and experienced women ready to take the initiative and make sacrifices to strengthen their position in society? If it's ready - now is the perfect time for this," the advisor wrote.
