Russia strengthens strict restrictions in migration policy

The Russian government intends to implement even stricter measures in its migration policy. This was announced by the Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov, who openly expressed the country's position:

"We approach the issue of migration based on the principle of "arrived - worked - left." The main thing here is simply the process of working, earning money, and leaving. Bringing families is not necessary in this system, we are not ready to undertake the obligation to educate or provide for those who are not our citizens," the minister said.

According to the draft law submitted to the State Duma in September, it is planned to prohibit labor migrants from bringing their family members to Russia.

Recall that the attitude towards migrants in Russia significantly deteriorated after the bloody terrorist incident in Crocus City Hall in March 2024. After this process, the government began to gradually adopt various laws that restricted their rights.

Officials acknowledge that migrants are necessary for the economy, but they do not hide the fact that they are increasingly tightening the requirements for them.

According to the government's official explanation, the ban on the entry of family members of migrants is being implemented in order not to put excessive pressure on the country's social infrastructure.

"Of course, it is necessary to attract labor migrants, but we must fully complete the process we have started," Reshetnikov noted.

Thus, Russia's updated migration policy is aimed at protecting the internal social balance while maintaining demand in the labor market.
