US President Donald Trump, in a speech on September 18, noted that the issue of resolving the conflict in Ukraine is proving to be more complicated than he imagined. According to him, the Russian leader believed that the war could be resolved more easily due to his personal relationship with Vladimir Putin, but reality did not meet his expectations. This was reported by a Sky News source.
"I thought that thanks to my relationship with Putin, the clash between Russia and Ukraine could be stopped faster. But he scared me, really scared me," Trump said at a joint press conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
At the same time, the American leader noted that Russia is suffering more losses than Ukraine. "Putin is killing many people. But he loses more soldiers than he kills. The Russian army is suffering greater losses than Ukraine," he stressed.
Trump believes that a large-scale war in Ukraine would never have started if he, not Biden, had served as US president. He reiterated this point of view and recalled that he had repeated it many times in the White House.
"Millions of people are dying in this war. They are not American soldiers, but the number of casualties is growing at the pace of World War II. "Therefore, I believe that I am obliged to solve this problem," the US President said.
As noted by Sky News, Trump once again repeated what he said to Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office: if the conflict continues, it could completely escalate into World War III.
