A British couple who had been held in prison in Afghanistan for nearly eight months has been released through Qatari mediation. Peter Reynolds, 80, and his wife Barbie Reynolds, 76, were arrested on 1 February while returning home. They had lived in Bamyan province for nearly twenty years.
According to reports, the couple were initially held in Kabul’s central prison and later transferred to another facility during negotiations. Qatari officials said they would first be taken to Doha for medical checks before being sent to the UK.
The release of the Reynoldses came after months of public appeals by their family. For several months, relatives had sought help from the government and international organizations.
Just a few days ago, an American woman named Faye Hall said in an interview that the Reynoldses were in poor health in prison and that time was running out for them.
