Taliban bans books written by women in universities

The Taliban government has banned the teaching of books written by women in Afghan universities. Human rights and sexual harassment courses have also been removed from the curriculum. Officials said that out of 680 books, 140 were authored by women.

According to the decision, 18 subjects will no longer be taught in universities. Six of them are directly related to women, including “Gender and Development” and “Women’s Sociology”.

Books written by Iranian authors or published in Iran have also been banned. Experts warn that this decision will negatively affect the quality of higher education.

The move continues the Taliban’s restrictions on women’s education in recent years. After women were barred from schools and universities, now their academic works have also been prohibited.
