The German economy lost 289 billion euros due to cybercrime.

Over the past year, the German economy has suffered serious losses. It was reported that 289.2 billion euros were damaged to the country's economy through illegal theft of digital data, espionage activities in the industrial sphere, and various sabotage. This figure is almost 8 percent higher than last year.

According to a report published by the Digital Association Bitcom, traces of these violations often trace back to Russian or Chinese sources. More than a thousand large and medium-sized enterprises were surveyed during the study. 87% of them reported experiencing cyberattacks or digital losses in the last year. For comparison, in 2024 this figure was 81%.

According to the survey results, 46% of enterprises have been exposed to cyber threats related to Russia at least once. This is 7 percent more than last year. At the same level, 46 percent of cases of espionage and information theft related to China were recorded by the company. In the following places, the dangers from Eastern European countries, the USA, and even Germany itself are mentioned.

28% of enterprises believe that foreign special services may be behind these attacks. This figure was 20% in 2024 and only 7% in 2023. That is, confidence in the risks associated with foreign countries among companies is growing year by year.

According to the Bitcom report, a significant portion of all losses and digital damages are related to organized crime. This indicates how seriously and systematically the issue is being implemented.

Zinan Zelen, Deputy Head of the Federal Office for the Protection of the German Constitution, also commented on the research results, noting that the country has been the main target of cyberattacks related to Russia for many years.

This situation indicates the need to further strengthen Germany's digital security system. According to experts, companies must take additional measures to protect not only their internal systems, but also their external connections. Because any vulnerability in the digital world can lead to significant economic losses.
