The cyberattack targeting Collins Aerospace caused major problems in European aviation. According to Reuters, this corporation, which serves major airlines worldwide, has encountered a technical malfunction.
Problems were noted, first of all, in the electronic registration and delivery systems. Heathrow Airport officially announced that this situation could lead to flight delays.
Brussels Airport and Berlin Airport issued separate statements claiming they were injured in the attack. The incident at the airport in the Belgian capital occurred on Friday night, with automated systems malfunctioning. Currently, passengers are registered only manually.
"This situation has a serious impact on the flight schedule. Unfortunately, the number of delays and cancelled flights is increasing," the airport said in a statement. So far, at least 10 flights have been canceled, and the remaining flights are delayed by an average of one hour.
The official website of Berlin Airport wrote that the length of queues and the patience of passengers are being tested. Technical services are working intensively to eliminate the problems. At the same time, it was reported that the center of Germany's largest airline - Frankfurt Airport - was not affected by the attack.
Passengers are very dissatisfied with the situation. Kim Raisen from Berlin said: "We were told only about a technical malfunction, but they didn't provide detailed information." Siegfried Schwarz expressed his concern: "In today's age of technology, it's inconceivable that it's impossible to defend against such an attack."
Collins Aerospace's modar company RTX issued a statement confirming that the outages did indeed occur at some airports. According to them, so far the problem has affected only the registration and delivery processes. The company is trying to solve the problem through temporary manual processes.
At the same time, one of the major airlines, EasyJet, reported that its flights are operating as usual, and so far this incident has not affected the flights.
This cyberattack in the European aviation sector caused serious concern among specialists. Because such attacks involve serious risks not only from a technical point of view, but also from a security perspective.
