Books by women banned in Afghanistan

In Afghan universities, books written by women have been officially banned. This was reported by BBC with reference to a source.

According to the information, about 140 works by women were considered “against Sharia and Taliban policy” and included in a list of 679 “inappropriate” books.

In addition, 18 courses were also banned in universities, including “The role of women in communication”, “Sociology of women”, “Gender and development”, human rights and Western philosophy.

The Taliban claims that these decisions are made by a commission consisting of “religious scholars and experts”.

It should be recalled that since August 2023, after the Taliban returned to power, a number of laws have come into force in the country that sharply restrict women’s rights. In particular, they are forbidden to enter parks, engage in sports, appear in TV series, and even talk to each other.

In addition, women are required to wear the burqa, covering the body and face, beauty salons have been closed, and it is forbidden to install windows in buildings used by women. Recently it was reported that the Taliban actively began destroying the remaining illegal salons.
