Palestine recognized, political pressure on Israel grows
The United Kingdom recognized Palestine as a state. Following this, Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper urged Israel not to annex the West Bank.

At the initiative of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Portugal recognized Palestine as a state. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called this decision “a reward for terrorism.”

According to Cooper, the decision was made to ensure the security of both sides and to revive the prospects for peace.

The Palestinian leadership welcomed the UK’s decision, saying this step is important for peace and good neighborly relations in the region.
