According to the Kremlin's official view, US President Donald Trump's statements about the possibility of reclaiming Ukrainian territories were made under the direct influence of Kyiv leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, especially refuted Trump's comparison of Russia to a "tiger on paper" and reacted sharply to this comparison.
"Russia is not a tiger, but a state more closely connected with the bear. Paper bears will not exist at all," Peskov said in a statement on Wednesday, September 24th.
According to him, Trump's words came after his meeting with Zelenskyy, and he expressed his opinion mainly under the influence of the Ukrainian side's perspective. Peskov emphasized that these views differ sharply from Russia's own understanding of the situation. At the same time, it was noted that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had the opportunity to "convey Russia's true position to the American delegation" within the framework of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Peskov also responded to Trump's words that Russia is "in a deep economic crisis." He emphasized that the Russian economy, despite the sanctions, remains "stable and predictable," and necessary measures are being taken to meet all the needs of the armed forces in the military operations in Ukraine.
According to Peskov, Trump's statements stemmed primarily from "US business interests" and the goal of increasing oil and gas exports.
Thus, the Kremlin assessed Trump's views under Zelenskyy's influence as far from reality, and Russia's economic and political power as stable.
