Zelenskyy asked Trump for Tomahawk missiles to strike Moscow

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked US President Donald Trump to provide Tomahawk cruise missiles capable of hitting critical targets in Moscow during a closed-door meeting in New York, according to the British publication The Telegraph.

As the newspaper wrote, Zelenskyy assured the White House leader that these high-tech weapons could serve as an additional tool for forcibly seating Russian President Vladimir Putin at the peace negotiating table.

Several sources report that Zelenskyy's request was voiced during a closed-door meeting of the two heads of state held within the framework of the UN General Assembly and was deemed "positive" by the Americans.

In an interview after the meeting, Zelenskyy said that President Trump welcomed his request:

"I told President Trump yesterday what we needed. This weapon is necessary for us, but this does not mean that we will use it immediately. If we have this weapon, I think there will be strong pressure to put Putin at the negotiating table," the Ukrainian leader said.

Tomahawk missiles can cover a range of 1250 to 2500 kilometers and provide high-precision strikes to deep enemy areas. This weapon is considered strategically important in NATO's arsenal.

Until now, the US has consistently refused to provide Ukraine with missiles of this type. The article states that it is not yet clear whether Zelenskyy's attempts will be successful.
