The tragedy that occurred during a political rally in India shook the entire national community. The incident that took place in the state of Tamil Nadu claimed the lives of many people and caused distress to hundreds of families.
According to reports, on the evening of September 27, famous actor and political figure Vijay held a support gathering for his new party. Tens of thousands of people flocked to the event, and despite the rally being held in a large area, the large crowd complicated the situation.
According to witnesses, the tragedy occurred when some of the crowd began moving towards the stage during the rally. Panic and crowding increased among the people, many lost consciousness, and hundreds were trampled underfoot. As a result, ambulances also faced difficulties reaching the scene.
According to the latest information, at least 39 people have died, and more than 50 others have been injured in various ways. It is reported that children and women form the majority of the victims.
According to the official statement from the Indian government, each family of the deceased will receive compensation of one million rupees (approximately 11 thousand US dollars). At the same time, officials promised to thoroughly investigate the causes of the incident and take measures to prevent similar cases.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi characterized the event in his speech as an “extremely sad and very painful accident.” He wished a speedy recovery to the injured and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.
Notably, such incidents have been observed in India several times. Just in the current year, dozens of people died in stampedes during religious festivals and sports events. This indicates that ensuring security during large events in the country requires even more serious attention.
This tragedy could serve as a harsh lesson not only for Tamil Nadu but for all of India. Because every human life is priceless, and its protection is one of the highest priorities for the state and society.
