Oregon and Portland have sued the Trump administration

On Sunday, September 28th, the leadership of Oregon and its most populous city, Portland, filed an official lawsuit against the federal government. They accused the administration of President Donald Trump of abuse of power.

According to the plaintiffs, the Trump administration violated constitutional laws by conscripting Oregon National Guard troops into federal service. Although this action was justified as a countermeasure to the riots, state lawyers believe that it actually serves to intensify protest moods rather than ensuring public safety.

The statement of claim states: "Provocative and uncontrolled actions of the defendants do not strengthen security, but, on the contrary, create even more unpleasantness among the public and put it at risk."

The document designates President Donald Trump, Defense Secretary Peter Hagset, Home Secretary Christie Noem, and relevant federal agencies as responsible.

As a reminder, a special memorandum was issued by the Minister of Defense on the same day the lawsuit was filed. According to it, 200 Oregon National Guard personnel were to be "immediately called up for federal duty for a 60-day period."

Currently, the matter is expected to be considered in the federal court and could lead to a new contentious process in US policy.
