Trump takes military control of Portland
US President Donald Trump sent National Guard troops from California to Portland. This happened after a court denied the request to send the National Guard to Portland.

California Governor Gavin Newsom called this an abuse of power and plans to go to court. The troops were sent to protect immigration officers and federal workers.

Portland and other cities are noted as places with strong protests against immigration control. Trump also authorized sending 300 National Guard members to Chicago.

State and local leaders call the president’s actions an abuse of power. Many city residents are protesting these actions.
