Egypt intends to start Hamas-Israel negotiations on Gaza

Egypt invited representatives of Israel and Hamas to a meeting on October 6 as part of the peace initiative proposed by US President Donald Trump. According to the Cairo Foreign Ministry, the goal is to quickly establish negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza and the exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners, giving new impetus to regional and international efforts.

The address of the meeting has not been officially determined: some publications wrote that the meeting could take place in Sharm el-Sheikh, while others mention Cairo. According to sources, the Israeli delegation will be headed by Ron Dermer, a close associate of the Minister of Strategic Planning and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to Trump's plan, the ceasefire will take effect as soon as Hamas confirms its consent. Netanyahu, however, openly stated his intention to disarm the movement and all of Gaza through diplomatic or military means: "Whether it's easy or difficult - it will happen anyway."

Hamas expressed its readiness to hand over the bodies of living hostages and the deceased to Israel based on the "formula proposed by President Trump" if "the necessary conditions are created for the exchange." At the same time, the movement approved the immediate discussion of the details of the agreement through intermediaries. The organization also expressed its readiness to transfer the governance of Gaza to an independent body based on the "Palestinian National Consensus and Arab-Islamic Assistance," but did not agree to the terms of disarmament. Leaders in Qatar are demanding the revision of some clauses of the plan.

The Egyptian initiative is another attempt to bring the parties together at one table, the outcome of which will largely depend on agreements on the regime, the sequence of the ceasefire, the terms of exchange, and security guarantees.
