Moscow law enforcement agencies are investigating whether Shere Shoigu, originally from Uzbekistan, and her husband, who bears her surname, participated in a scheme involving the embezzlement of over 100 million rubles through cryptocurrency exchanges. Said Yarakhmedov, a representative of three victims, told TASS that both the number of deceived individuals and the extent of the damage are likely to "double."
According to the defense attorney, an application was filed with law enforcement agencies demanding an investigation under Article 159 (fraud) of the Russian Criminal Code and the initiation of a criminal case. According to him, the Muscovites were promised "a profitable investment in the crypto exchange," the money was collected, and then the organizers of the "project" may have fled.
Yarakhmedov noted that 27-year-old Sherekhon Osmonova changed her passport details, took the surname Shere Shoygu, and introduced herself as the niece of Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoygu. It was alleged that he gained trust in this way and disappeared with the accumulated funds.
"The estimated damage caused by the criminals' actions currently exceeds 100 million rubles. However, the number of applications and the total damage may double in the near future," the lawyer said.
Officials say that the investigation is ongoing; it should also be remembered that any person is considered innocent until their guilt is proven.
