Speaking at the 12th summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Gabala, Azerbaijan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan noted that the Turkic world could play a more influential role in ensuring regional stability and security. According to him, Ankara not only monitors the processes taking place in the South Caucasus, but also wholeheartedly supports all initiatives aimed at achieving peace. The President welcomed the joint statement of Azerbaijan and Armenia on August 8 as a "positive step towards peace in the region."
Touching upon the Syrian issue, Erdoğan emphasized that "the achievements noted over the past nine months, despite obstacles, inspire optimism" and called on all Turkic states to support Syria's territorial integrity and to intensify practical dialogue with Damascus.
The Turkish leader also stated that the main threat to regional stability following recent strikes against Qatar comes from the official Israeli government. He expressed satisfaction with the recent attempts to stop the bloodshed in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the deaths of 66,000 innocent people, and reaffirmed his position on the "two-state" solution, which relies on international law for the sake of sustainable justice.
Erdoğan criticized the effectiveness of the UN Security Council, stating that "many topics that offend the conscience of humanity are being ignored." He called on the OTS to become "a reliable structure capable of adapting to changing realities, defending justice, and having a unified position on international issues."
The President noted that the united position of the member states in the fight against terrorism, illegal migration, cyber threats, and climate change is of decisive importance. In this regard, he recalled the initiative to publish a book about Chingiz Aitmatov and "Oghuzname" in a common alphabet as a step towards a unified alphabet for Turkic countries.
At the end of his speech, Erdogan emphasized that during the summit, the Turkic states once again demonstrated "unity, mutual respect and brotherhood" and called for strengthening cooperation for peace and stability.
