The head of the Hamas negotiation delegation in Gaza, Khalil al-Khayya, announced the entry into force of the ceasefire agreement. According to his televised appeal, Hamas has received guarantees from the US and intermediaries that the war has finally ended, Reuters writes.
Al-Hayya emphasized that the agreement provides for a "permanent firewall," and the Rafah border crossing will operate in both directions. Also, according to a coordinated plan, all Palestinian women and children in Israeli prisons will be released.
According to the statement, an additional 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences, as well as another 1,700 Gaza citizens detained since the beginning of the conflict, are expected to be released. These measures are stipulated as part of the fire prevention conditions.
According to local sources, the implementation of the agreement will be ensured through logistics, security, and monitoring mechanisms. For now, the parties are continuing to harmonize the technical details, but the main goal is to transition the prolonged confrontation to a path of sustainable peace.
It should be noted that long-standing conflicts around the Gaza Strip have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the region. The updated agreement can open a new page in the issues of population movement, assistance delivery, and prisoner exchange.
