On Friday, October 10, a powerful explosion occurred at the Accurate Energetic Systems (AES) plant in Tennessee, USA. According to local authorities, at least four people have been hospitalized, and 18 more remain missing.
Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis told reporters that “several people” were killed, though the exact number of victims has not yet been confirmed. Fox News, citing its sources, reported that there were “multiple fatalities.”
The AES plant is located about 80 kilometers from Nashville. Emergency response units and bomb disposal experts arrived at the scene. Sheriff Davis added that there is still a risk of additional explosions and that the investigation may last several days.
“We might be here for a while until we have the situation fully under control,” he said.
The cause of the explosion remains unknown. However, officials stated that Accurate Energetic Systems specializes in producing explosive materials for the defense industry.
Founded in 1980, the company manufactures explosives used for both military and commercial purposes. According to The Washington Post, AES has supplied the U.S. military with gunpowder, dynamite, anti-personnel mines, and components for large-caliber shells.
This was not the first explosion at the facility. In 2014, a similar incident occurred, killing one person and injuring three others.
The area has been cordoned off, and investigation and technical inspections are ongoing. U.S. authorities have urged residents to stay away from the site until the situation is fully stabilized.
