North Korea unveils its “secret weapon” at a military parade

North Korea held a large military parade to mark the 80th anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea. During the ceremony, the country unveiled for the first time a new intercontinental ballistic missile — the “Hwasong-20,” reported the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

This event is seen as a new milestone in North Korea’s military capabilities. According to reports, in September, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un announced the creation of a “secret weapon.” Following his statement, South Korean experts speculated that it could be the “Hwasong-20” or its upgraded variant.

During the parade, the “Hwasong-20” appeared after a display of hypersonic medium-range missiles. According to KCNA, this missile was developed using new technologies and is capable of carrying multiple warheads.

The ceremony also featured new-generation offensive weapons systems, hypersonic missiles, and models of nuclear submarines. Analysts say this demonstrates Pyongyang’s determination to showcase its advanced defense capabilities.

Experts believe the public display of the “Hwasong-20” signals North Korea’s intent to expand its military program despite international pressure. They see it as a serious political message to Washington and Seoul.

North Korea claims the weapons are designed to ensure the country’s independence and security. However, the international community fears such demonstrations could further escalate tensions in the region.

Thus, Pyongyang once again showcased its military strength — a move that will inevitably affect the balance of power in East Asia.
