How did an American woman win a court case using ChatGPT?

A New York businesswoman, Stacey Dennett, won a court case using artificial intelligence. Without hiring a lawyer, she prepared her entire defense with ChatGPT and managed to eliminate a $2,000 debt, local media reported.

According to reports, Dennett, based in New Mexico, runs a small home fitness business. After receiving a court summons, she couldn’t afford legal fees and decided to try ChatGPT instead.

“I had never been involved in a court case before. But I often use ChatGPT for work and personal tasks,” said the entrepreneur.

The AI helped her draft her defense speech, organize evidence, and prepare the necessary documents for the hearing. Dennett even asked ChatGPT to “pretend to be a Harvard law professor” and critically review her arguments.

As a result, the case was decided in her favor. The debt amount was reduced, and the issue was settled amicably. After the trial, the opposing lawyers emailed her: “If you’re truly interested in law, you could easily make it your profession.”

Such cases are not new in the U.S. For example, Los Angeles resident Lynn White also won a housing-related lawsuit after finding legal errors with ChatGPT and Perplexity, avoiding a $55,000 fine and an $18,000 debt.

Another American, Jennifer Allan, said she paid off $11,000 in debt after following a “30-day ChatGPT challenge,” using AI to plan her budget and cut expenses.

These stories prove that artificial intelligence can effectively assist people in legal and financial matters.
