Flood disaster in Mexico: 27 people dead
Heavy rains and floods in Mexico have killed at least 27 people. The downpours caused landslides and flooding in several regions.

In Hidalgo state, 16 people died, with nearly a thousand homes and many schools damaged. Deaths were also reported in Puebla and Veracruz states, and several people remain missing.

President Claudia Sheinbaum said roads are being reopened and power is being restored to protect the population. Rescue teams are assisting residents in the flooded areas.

The Mexican Ministry of Defense has deployed more than 5,000 military personnel.
