Zelensky’s Washington Visit: New Aid to Ukraine Under Discussion

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Washington, D.C., on the evening of October 16 for an official visit. The Ukrainian leader’s plane landed at Andrews Air Force Base.

According to Zelensky, during his visit he will hold key negotiations with representatives of U.S. defense companies. The discussions will focus on additional deliveries of air defense systems to Ukraine, as well as expanding cooperation in the fields of security and defense.

The president also said he would meet with leaders of American energy companies to discuss ways to strengthen Ukraine’s stability amid Russia’s ongoing strikes on its energy infrastructure. “Russia continues to strike our energy system every day. Despite this, we are working to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of our country,” Zelensky said.

Today, October 17, the Ukrainian leader will meet U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House. The talks are expected to focus on bilateral cooperation and a new package of military aid for Kyiv. Zelensky noted that active efforts to contain the conflict and terrorism in the Middle East could also help bring an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Zelensky also confirmed that Trump’s proposal to transfer Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kyiv would be discussed. He stressed that Ukraine intends to use these weapons only against military targets.

Earlier, President Trump stated that he was considering the possibility of supplying Tomahawk missiles with a range of up to 2,500 kilometers to Ukraine. The issue will be one of the key agenda points during the October 17 talks with Zelensky.

Zelensky’s visit to Washington is expected to mark a new strategic stage in U.S.–Ukraine relations, particularly in defense cooperation and economic stability.
