Tragic news is coming from India’s Madhya Pradesh state after the Diwali festival. During the celebration, the use of illegal explosive toys caused 14 children to lose their eyesight, local media reported.
According to the information, in the districts of Bhopal and Vidisha alone, more than 120 children were hospitalized with various injuries. Doctors confirmed that some of them suffered eye damage, and for 14 children, restoring vision is impossible.
The incident was caused by homemade explosive devices known as “carbide guns.” These devices explode through gas produced by mixing calcium carbide and water. During the explosion, flying metal or plastic fragments caused serious injuries to the children’s eyes and faces.
Indian authorities reminded that the sale of such devices had already been banned. However, it was discovered that they were still being sold secretly in some markets. The police detained several sellers, but citizens are demanding stricter control and compensation for the victims.
Experts once again emphasized the importance of using only certified and safe fireworks during festivals and urged parents to keep children away from such dangerous activities.
