Artnews reports that Yves Klein's painting "California" was sold for 18.4 million euros (1.7 billion rubles) at Christie's auction in Paris.
The painting was painted by Klein in California during his only trip to the United States in 1961. More than four meters long, it is the artist's largest monochrome painting in blue.
Since 2005, "California" has been in a private collection in New York. From 2005 to 2008, the painting was leased to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was at this time that it was last shown to the public.
