In South Korea, the government has launched a large-scale inspection campaign against foreign citizens illegally staying in the country, KoreaHerald.com reports. These measures are being implemented at the initiative of the Ministry of Justice, with the involvement of the police, maritime police, and the Ministries of Labor and Transport.
The raids are being conducted throughout the country, and their main goal is to identify migrants without a legal basis, persons engaged in unpaid and unlicensed activities, as well as intermediaries and law-breaking employers. These operations will last until December 12 and are aimed at strengthening security measures, especially on the eve of the APEC summit in Gyeongju in 2025.
The government stated that these measures are aimed not only at cleaning up the migration system but also at protecting the jobs of local citizens. Therefore, many foreigners may fall under the scrutiny. Local sources say that some employers are also likely to be held accountable for illegally recruiting workers.
According to the Ministry of Justice, in cases of detection of violations, penalties such as fines, expulsion from the country (deportation), and a subsequent ban on entry into South Korea will be applied. However, officials emphasized that they attach great importance to the full observance of human rights in this process.
Addressing the migrants, representatives of the ministry reminded that voluntary elimination of illegal status may allow avoiding serious legal consequences in the future. That is, whoever voluntarily leaves the country, it is not unlikely that they will be granted benefits for obtaining a visa or entering the next time.
According to the Agency for External Labor Migration of Uzbekistan, since the beginning of the year, fines have been imposed on 26 citizens who violated the requirements of the E-9 visa. They were forced to pay $2,000 for each illegal month. This situation reminds citizens once again of the need to strictly comply with the requirements of foreign law.
It is noted that this operation in South Korea is being carried out not only to ensure order within the country, but also as part of the policy of strengthening security on the eve of international summits in the region. Therefore, the authorities urge migrants to restore their legal status or leave the country.
Thus, the South Korean government began to establish strict order in the field of migration. The main focus of this campaign remains the improvement of the labor market and ensuring the rule of law.
