At the Central City Clinical Hospital in Almaty, a 63-year-old woman who became a donor saved the lives of several patients, the country's Ministry of Health reported.
According to the information, the heart of the woman, born in 1962, was transplanted to a patient born in 1988. Her liver was transplanted to a patient born in 1982; her right kidney saved the life of a man born in 1996; and her left kidney was transplanted to a patient born in 1966 who had been waiting for a transplant since October 2017.
In addition, the donor’s corneas restored the sight of two patients — born in 1983 and 1956.
The transplantation procedures were organized by the Republican Transplantation Center under the Ministry of Health, with participation from specialists of leading medical institutions in Almaty.
Doctors noted that despite the donor’s age, her organs were in good condition and continue to function successfully. This case once again proves that donor age is not an obstacle to saving human lives.
Representatives of the center expressed deep gratitude to the donor’s family for their courageous decision and also praised the coordinated work of the medical specialists who successfully carried out the complex procedure.
