The construction of a strategically important bridge over the Syrdarya river in the Bekobod district of Tashkent region has been officially completed. This infrastructure project, which the local population had eagerly awaited for nearly forty years, is expected to radically transform transportation logistics and the socio-economic life of the district.
The history of this construction dates back to the Soviet era. The initial permits and preparatory works began in 1989.
However, due to political and economic changes in 1991, the project was suspended. For decades, the unfinished bridge became an unfulfilled dream for the local residents.
Finally, in 2025, construction resumed and was successfully completed. 72 billion soums were allocated for the implementation of the project.
With these funds, a new bridge 200 meters long and an adjacent six-kilometer, four-lane highway were built. The new transportation route is equipped with modern infrastructure, including a night lighting system, pedestrian walkways, and facilities for people with disabilities.
After the facility was commissioned, transport capabilities improved significantly. The throughput capacity of this route increased sevenfold, from 2,000 to 14,000 vehicles per day.
For residents of the "Do‘stlik" and "Yangiyo‘l" neighborhoods, the distance to the district center was reduced by 44 kilometers. This saves time and transport expenses, and also ensures quick access to social infrastructure such as medical and educational institutions.
For the agricultural sector and local businesses, the bridge's opening means optimizing logistics chains and reducing the cost of transporting goods. Improved transportation links are expected to boost entrepreneurship and increase the region’s investment attractiveness.
Local residents are calling the new bridge "the road that brought life back," highlighting its significance in solving an old social problem and its role as a symbol of renewal and development for the Bekobod district.
