The Singapore Parliament has approved new penalties to drastically strengthen the fight against internet fraud. Now, individuals who commit online fraud will be punished not only by imprisonment but also by physical punishment - beating with a stick, reports The Washington Post.
According to official data, tens of thousands of cases of fraud were registered in the country in the first half of 2025, and their financial losses exceeded 385 million dollars.
According to Interior Minister Sim Ann, each perpetrator will be punished with at least six batons. This punishment is carried out in specially prepared devices after a medical examination. Sticks are made of flexible sticks 60-120 cm long and 4-13 mm thick.
The law does not apply to all men and women over the age of 50.
The new procedure is aimed at reducing the number of fraudsters, protecting citizens, and strengthening financial security in the country.
