Saudi Arabia is demanding official recognition of the Palestinian state as a key condition for restoring relations with Israel. This was announced by Palestinian officials.
According to them, Riyadh expressed its unwillingness to rush the issue of normalizing relations with Israel. According to the Saudi government, political rapprochement is practically impossible while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and sharply right-wing representatives in his government - Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir - are in power.
At the same time, Saudi Arabia demands a plan with practical steps, clearly defining the creation of a Palestinian state for the restoration of relations. Riyadh believes this is a key factor in the region's stability.
Israel is dissatisfied with the draft of the new UN Security Council resolution on Gaza. The document provides for the creation of conditions that ensure the Palestinians' right to establish their own independent state. A number of Israeli ministers strongly opposed the project, emphasizing that such a state would never exist.
As the situation in the Middle East escalates, the diplomatic process between Saudi Arabia and Israel remains directly linked to the resolution of the Palestinian issue.
