The US political scene has revived again - new information has emerged that the Donald Trump administration has begun silent negotiations with the Russian president with a new, secret diplomatic initiative aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. According to a report published by the influential American portal Axios on November 19, officials from both countries are actively participating in this process.
Sources indicate that the Trump administration's 28-point special peace draft aims to gradually resolve the conflict in Ukraine. The document covers four main areas: establishing lasting peace in Ukraine, new mechanisms for security guarantees, revising the security architecture in Europe, and restructuring Washington's future diplomatic relations with Moscow and Kyiv.
Currently, Stephen Whitkoff, Trump's special envoy, is actively working on this plan. Several weeks ago, he held lengthy discussions in the US with the special representative of the Russian president, Kirill Dmitriev.
According to reports, Dmitriev arrived in Miami on October 24-26 and participated in a series of closed meetings with representatives of Whitkoff and Trump's team for three days. He noted on his X (formerly Twitter) that these meetings were "effective, meaningful, and a new stage on the path to peace," and also reported that some proposals in the field of economic cooperation and trade were discussed.
At the same time, Axios notes that the full details of the peace plan remained closed, especially regarding the territories of Ukraine, and the specific positions of the parties were not disclosed. However, according to the portal's new report, Russia and the US have also discussed the possibility of another prisoner exchange in the near future.
Currently, experts assess this process as a new diplomatic weapon, inspired by the renewed US foreign policy strategy, as well as Trump's recent active efforts to ease the tense situation in the Gaza Strip.
Although the clear clauses of the plan have not yet been published, there is increasing talk that such an active dialogue between Washington and Moscow could open a new page in the war around Ukraine.
