A new UNICEF report has revealed another harsh truth about the situation of children around the world. According to Oxu.az, approximately 417 million children currently live on the poverty line worldwide.
It is noted that most of these children live in Africa and South Asia — and in some regions, the situation has completely deteriorated. For example, 118 million children are growing up deprived of several essential needs at the same time. Another 17 million children do not have full access to four or more basic necessities — healthcare, clean water, education, or food.
The report states that the lack of clean drinking water, delays in preventive medical services, and the absence of quality education are driving millions of children into deep poverty. This means that in low- and middle-income countries, one out of every five children is growing up in difficult conditions.
At the same time, UNICEF notes that there have been small but positive changes over the past decade. In 2013, 51 percent of children faced at least one severe deprivation, while by 2023 this figure had decreased to 41 percent. Experts believe this is the result of strengthening child rights protections and expanding social support programs.
In conclusion, the report states that child poverty still remains one of the most serious global problems. While even the simplest opportunities remain a dream for millions of children, the activities of international organizations must be further strengthened.
