The latest survey on the current mood of Russians and their attitude towards the war has sparked widespread public discussion. The results of a survey conducted by the "Chronicles" research project in October 2025 indicate that the majority of Russians - about 63-64 percent - want to end the war and sign a "negotiable peace treaty" with Ukraine. However, at the same time, only 36% of people expressed confidence that such a result would be achieved.
The study participants were divided into two groups: some expressed their opinion about what decisions they expect from the government, while others said what changes they personally want to happen in Russia. Among the encouraging "probable" steps, such as increasing army spending (78%), increasing attention to domestic social problems (48%), and stopping the war after achieving the goals announced by the Kremlin (47%), proposals ranked high.
At the same time, 36 percent believed in the possibility of concluding a peace treaty, while 35 percent said that there could be mobilization. Restoring relations with the West (28 percent) and lifting sanctions (22 percent) were seen as less likely.
Interestingly, there is a big difference between the changes Russians want most and the reality they expect. Among the most desirable steps, ending the war and resolving internal problems occupied 88%. This is followed by the achievement of a peace treaty (64%), the lifting of sanctions (63%), and the restoration of relations with the West (58%). The increase in army spending was approved by 49 percent, and the mobilization - by 16 percent.
The survey also examined the level of support for the war. 50% of respondents said they approved of the war, while 39% avoided answering this question. Only a small portion expressed their disapproval of the war.
Regarding participation in the war, the respondents differed sharply: 28% said "if there is an order, I will participate," 9% said they are ready to go voluntarily. 38 percent opposed this decision, 19 percent refused to answer. 6 percent stated that they do not belong to the mobilization category.
If a family member wants to go to the front on a contract basis, 55% of respondents said they would not approve of it, 30% supported this decision, and the remaining 15% avoided commenting.
The survey results show a sharp increase in the desire for peace among Russians. However, most of them do not yet believe that the government will choose such a path - a serious gap remains between hope and real expectations.
