The Japanese man won 300 million rubles in the lottery and hid the money from his wife

A 66-year-old Japanese pensioner won 600 million yen (approximately 300 million rubles) in the lottery. The man decided to hide the money from his wife and later began to regret it, according to the South China Morning Post.

According to the pensioner, his wife has always been "very thrifty." The man recalled that after the wedding, the woman forbade him from drinking beer and allowed him to buy only an old cheap car. The total pension of the husband and wife was 300,000 yen (150 thousand rubles) per month, most of which was saved or spent on the education of children.

Upon learning of the victory, the man decided to lie to his wife. He told his wife that he had won only 5 million yen (2.5 million rubles) and would spend it on house repairs.

The man secretly bought a luxury car, spent several vacations at hot springs resorts, and traveled around Japan, spending 18 million yen (9 million rubles) in just six months. To avoid suspicion, the pensioner would take the subway to the parking lot every day, where he would leave his new car, wear old clothes, and move away from his usual circle of communication.

Soon a crisis of identity began in the man. He also began to frequently recall his father, who died alone after a divorce and bankruptcy.

"If this money was earned by me, I would be proud of it. But wealth that comes without work evokes unpleasant memories and shakes my life," the man said. He decided to insure almost 500 million yen, citing his wife and children as recipients.
