The UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the "UN Women" structure published a warning report on November 25 - International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
According to the 2025 femicide report, 83,000 women and girls were deliberately murdered in 2024. 137 of them died every 24 hours at the hands of their spouses or close relatives.
The report states that 60% of these murders, or more than 50,000, were committed by sexual partners or family members. Among men, this figure is only 11 percent.
Cases of gender-based murders are being recorded in all regions of the world. The highest number of femicide cases against women was observed in Africa - 3 cases per 100,000 women. These figures are also alarming in the Americas (1.5), Oceania (1.4), Asia (0.7), and Europe (0.5).
The UN sharply criticized this situation and called on all states to take real measures to ensure the safety of women.
