Cash shortage in Gaza: old banknotes keep life going

In Gaza, because banks are not working and new cash is not coming in, people are forced to repair old banknotes. In markets, the number of people restoring torn and faded notes has increased.

Some young people use simple pencils, rulers, and glue to fix the notes and return them to circulation. Every banknote is important in Gaza, as ATMs are not working and many banks are destroyed.

Due to the cash shortage, many rely on electronic payments. But exchanging electronic money for cash comes with high commissions for some, creating extra difficulties for residents.

Although organizations like UNICEF provide assistance, prices have risen sharply. Many families still struggle to cover daily expenses.
