
A court in Hubei Province, China, sentenced Li Gang, the former head of the Disciplinary Inspection and Anti-Corruption Group of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (CPC), to 15 years in prison. He was found guilty of corruption and convicted of accepting a bribe of 102 million yuan ($14.4 million).
The court fined Lee Gang a fine of 6 million yuan ($850,000) and confiscated his illegal income, revealing his misuse. During the trial, it was revealed that Li Gang abused his position from 1998 to 2024, receiving bribes through various business contracts, land acquisition, promotion, and other privileges. He carried out his corrupt activities in the positions of deputy governor of Sichuan Province and head of the organization's department in the government of Yunnan Province.
Li Gang was arrested in April 2024, during the investigation he helped to solve other corruption cases in his activities, and his sentence was further mitigated due to allowing changes. In China, incumbent corrupt officials are often sentenced to death on parole. Lee Gang's remorse and cooperation with the investigation are explained by the fact that he returned a large part of the stolen funds.
