U.S. and Ukrainian representatives meet to discuss peace plan
U.S. and Ukrainian representatives at meetings held in Florida called on Russia to take concrete steps to end the war. The talks were attended by U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Ukraine’s National Security Council secretary Rustem Umerov. During the two-day discussions, the sides exchanged information about earlier meetings with Russia.

Witkoff’s visit to Moscow and his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin were also discussed. Despite about five hours of conversation, the sides did not reach an agreement on the peace plan. The Kremlin said it was ready to continue the talks, but Ukraine and its allies doubt Russia’s intention to end the war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he wants full information about what was discussed in Moscow. An earlier leaked version of the peace plan caused dissatisfaction in Ukraine. The plan has been revised, but the updated version has not yet been made public. The main disagreements concern security guarantees and territories under Russian control.

Ukraine and European countries believe strong security guarantees are necessary to prevent Russia from attacking again in the future. Russia opposes this, and U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed caution on the issue. Nevertheless, the talks continue, and the sides are trying to reach an agreement to stop the war.
