The 28-point peace formula proposed by the US was revised and reduced to 20 points after a series of negotiations with Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this while answering journalists' questions via WhatsApp on a flight from London to Brussels.
Zelenskyy noted that the previous version contained a number of points that contradicted Kyiv's interests. After the update, they were completely removed.
"There were 28 points, now there are 20. We changed this direction. Not a single part that contradicts the interests of Ukraine was left. Americans, in general, are looking for compromise options, but there are still no solutions regarding regional issues," Zelenskyy said.
During the conversation, the Ukrainian leader repeatedly emphasized that Kyiv does not intend to give up its territories:
"Neither the constitution nor international law complements them. Russia demands that we relinquish territories, but we give nothing - that's precisely why we are fighting," Ukrainian publications quote him.
Zelenskyy also touched upon the issue of security guarantees. He emphasized that the most reliable guarantees for Ukraine can be provided by the US, but this should not be "empty promises" like the Budapest Memorandum, but a document officially approved by Congress.
According to the president, the development of the peace plan will be completed by the evening of December 9, and the completed document will be ready for sending to the US side. European consultants are also working with Ukraine.
On December 4-6, the Ukrainian delegation held talks with representatives of the USA in Miami. The meeting was attended by Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security Council of Ukraine; Andrey Gnatov, Chief of the General Staff; and, on the US side, Stephen Whitkoff, a representative of President Donald Trump; and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of the White House leader. On the third day of negotiations, Zelenskyy himself joined online and announced that he had held a "long and meaningful conversation."
As can be seen, the further fate of the peace plan depends on the level of agreement between the US and Ukraine and, most importantly, on whether Kyiv will not back down from its territorial positions.
