Leaders to Be Chosen Soon for Gaza Peace Council Membership

US President Donald Trump announced that the selection and announcement of which leading nations of the world will join the Gaza Peace Council is planned for January 2026. Trump shared this during an event at the White House on December 9, 2025, emphasizing that global leaders have shown interest in joining the council, which was established as part of the Gaza truce.
According to Trump, many of the world’s kings, presidents, and prime ministers are interested in joining the Peace Council. In his remarks, he stated: “This will be one of the most legendary councils in history. Everyone wants to be a part of it.”
The United Nations Security Council, through a resolution adopted on November 17, 2025, authorized the establishment of International Stabilization Forces and their deployment to Gaza in coordination with the Peace Council and its member states. The Peace Council is expected to play a significant role in guiding Gaza's reconstruction and development trajectory.
Furthermore, the resolution noted that the activities of the Peace Council will continue “until the Palestinian Authority sufficiently completes its reform program and is able to regain secure and effective control of Gaza.”
Currently, with the support of international mediators, the peace process between Israel and Hamas is underway. The second phase of the truce is expected to begin after Hamas locates and returns the remaining bodies in Gaza.
