U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegset has removed Daniel Driskoll, the U.S. Army Secretary, from the ongoing negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine. According to Hegset, Driskoll exceeded his authority. This was reported by The Telegraph, citing its sources.
«Exceeding Authority»
A source told the newspaper that Daniel Driskoll “took on too much responsibility and was therefore penalized.” The publication's sources even described Pentagon chief Pete Hegset as “paranoid."
This incident highlights political tensions within the U.S. Department of Defense.
Failure in Kyiv
According to The Telegraph, in November, Daniel Driskoll was tasked with presenting a U.S.-drafted plan to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
However, the meeting ended unsuccessfully, with Ukraine rejecting the U.S. proposals.
Canceled Visits
Following this negotiation failure, Driskoll was expected to return to Kyiv two weeks ago to continue discussions, but his trip was canceled.
Additionally, Driskoll had planned significant talks with Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on December 1. However, this meeting was also canceled by Driskoll.
Pete Hegset's decision may signal serious changes in the U.S. approach to the peace process in Ukraine.
