In China, the driver became a "prisoner" of his car due to a serious malfunction in the cruise control system. The car moved almost continuously at a speed of 115 kilometers per hour, covering a distance of 490 kilometers, and the driver could not stop it for four hours. The braking system did not respond to all attempts to reduce speed. This was reported by Shine publication.
As it turned out, the incident occurred on the Lanzhou-Haikou highway. The road patrol service, following the faulty vehicle, partially cleared the road to ensure traffic safety. The car stopped only after the fuel was completely depleted.
According to the driver, he made several attempts to press the brakes, switch the transmission to a neutral position, use the handbrake, and turn off the cruise control, but all attempts were unsuccessful. As a result, he was trapped inside a high-speed car for hours.
After the incident, the driver announced that an agreement had been reached with the car manufacturer. The company's name was not disclosed, but it was confirmed that the money paid for the car will be fully refunded and additional financial compensation will be provided.
In short, this situation once again reminded us that no matter how convenient modern technologies are, a technical malfunction can pose a serious threat to human life.
