US President Donald Trump, commenting on Washington’s policy toward Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, stressed that if Venezuela’s leadership meets the US demands, American troops will not be deployed in the country.
In an interview with the New York Post, Trump said, “If the vice president does what we say, there will be no need for US troops.” He added that there have been several rounds of contacts with the Venezuelan government and that they understand the situation well.
Trump’s statement is significant in shaping US–Venezuela relations and the country’s political future. At a previous press conference, the US leader said he would provide all possible assistance for Venezuela’s democratic future and was ready to take control of economic and political governance.
