US actions on Venezuela spark China’s discontent

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made a statement regarding the capture of Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro by the United States. He said no country should consider itself the “world judge.”
Wang Yi said this during a meeting with Pakistan’s foreign minister. According to him, the sovereignty and security of all countries must be respected under international law. He called the recent events in Venezuela an “unexpected situation.”
Nicolas Maduro is currently in custody in the United States, and a court is expected to review a case related to drug trafficking. U.S. President Donald Trump said that Venezuela’s government will temporarily be under U.S. control.
Chinese officials said that Maduro’s capture was a negative event for Beijing. In recent years, China has maintained trade relations with Venezuela and purchased large amounts of oil from the country in 2024.
