In response to Trump's threat, Petro sharply recalled the "people's jaguar"

Colombian President Gustavo Petro made a very harsh statement against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump's words about the possibility of using force against Latin American leaders. According to Petro, such "signals" appear to him as an open threat to both the country's sovereignty and to himself personally as president.
Previously, it was reported that Trump had directly warned Petro, stating that he "should be cautious." He also claimed that cocaine was being produced in Colombia and entering the US.
And Petro used a very figurative expression in his attitude:
- If the president, whom a large part of my people respects and supports, is arrested, you will awaken the "folk jaguar," he said.
In his subsequent remarks, the Colombian leader warned about the potential consequences of the strike, stating that if intelligence is insufficient, innocent people - especially children - could suffer. He emphasized that actions such as bombing peasants increase the likelihood of the emergence of "new partisans" in mountainous areas.
The statement also includes another firm position: according to Petro, now every Colombian soldier has a clear directive - if any commander of the public security forces places the US flag above the Colombian flag, he will be immediately dismissed from service.
The president asserted that he was "not an illegal or drug dealer" and said that his only property was a family home, which he was paying from his salary. At the same time, he expressed his trust in the people and appealed to protect the president from any illegal acts of violence. The instructions given to the security forces sounded like this in his statement: "shoot not at the people, but at the invader."
It should be recalled that against the backdrop of this harsh rhetoric, there were reports that Trump also spoke harshly about Colombia and Mexico after the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
